Lacks Creek

Lacks Creek is a tributary to Redwood Creek. Very recently, 4500 acres were purchase and turned over to the BLM. This acreage was combined with a patchwork 4500 acre parcel to create a contiguous 9000 acre parcel. The parcel is located east of Redwood Creek, just off Bair Road near Pine Ridge Summit. It takes about forty-five minutes to drive to the trail head from Arcata.

The SCA (Student Conservation Association) was working at Lacks Creek this past summer. They started working on a trail which will be primary access to the 9000 acre parcel. For the most part, the access trail follows an old road bed but has some narrow single track diversions. The trails are being designed for non-motorized use. As of now, the funding is very limited, but with a big turnover in congress this fall, who knows what direction things will go. Aside from funded work (CCC, SCA, and CDC to name a few), work on this project appears it will be leaning heavily on volunteer participation. The BLM is very welcoming to us and is also trying to get equestrians and hikers involved.

We'll provide more information as things develop.
